Questionnaire
1. When do you plan on graduating? May, 2012, maybe?
2. Where have you, or will you be interning? I have look on –line at Food Network, Travel Channel, ESPN, and KERA (PBS).
3. What are your plans and goals for after graduation? Grad school? Starting a business? Getting a job? Being an artist/commercial shooter? Please be as specific as possible. How do you plan on making a living? My plans are to make contact with the internet sites I have listed on #2, ESPN or KERA (PBS), before graduating. They have great internship opportunities. The Department of Veterans Affairs has a position for Illustrator-working as a photographer and artist. This is will be something I can do. The requirement is a bachelor degree in the area of art. They are located in the Texas area. I am trying to stay close in the area of Texas for my parents for now. I would like to go to graduate school. I am employed through Department of Veterans.
4. Establish a budget for yourself, post-graduation. What does it cost to live in a manner that you’d be comfortable? Again, be specific. Do you have school loans, credit card debt? Need Insurance? A place to live? I have an on-going budget. My budget is set up for month ahead. By time I graduate from school, the only debts I will be responsible for: truck, vehicle insurance, life insurance, one credit card, and student loan (combined). As far as finding a place to live, I know where, but I have not commented to the place.
5. Do you require any special equipment to make your work or start your business (for example, a wood shop, studio, video equipment, cameras, computers, printers) that might be cost-prohibitive or difficult to access after you graduate? If so, what kind? Not now. However, I would like to learn how to operate video equipment and some training in wood shop.
6. Are you planning to go to graduate school? If yes: right away or later? Have you started researching graduate schools? Why do you want to go to graduate school? Tell me what five schools you’d like to go to, and how you plan on doing it. Undecided
7. What kind of job would you most like to find? Illustrator, travel photographer
8. What kind of job do you expect to find? If, I remain employed with the Department of Veterans Affairs, I could apply for an Illustrator position.
9. Name either a dozen potential employers, clients, galleries or graduate schools, depending on your goals. Food Network Magazine, Department of Veterans Affairs, ESPN, KERA (PBS), Travel Channel, Animal Planet-River Monsters, Discovery Communications, History Channel, National Geographic, CNN, Time magazine, and Amon Carter Museum—CNN internship programs are CNN Video Journalists, Turner Trainee Team, Turner Sports NCAA Digital Post-graduate Internship (junior, senior, and graduates in school)
10. Do you plan to live off freelance work or commissions (perhaps in addition to a part-time job)? If given an opportunity work on an outside project, I will do it.
11. What did you do this summer to move you toward your goals? What art have you seen this summer? How much work did you make? I photograph my parents. I’m working to put a book together about my parents. I have not seen any arts. I was working and assisting my parents.
12. Do you have a portfolio of your work? Website? Blog? Can you tell me in 30 seconds what your work is about? Do it. No, No, Yes, No. The places I listed for potential internship, how do I make a portfolio to met their needs?
13. What artists, musicians, photographers, writers, movies, books have influenced you/your work? Movies: The Chronicles of Narnia, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and Prince Caspian. Photographers: Jack Spencer, Gordon Parks, Chris Johns; Writers: Walter Mosley, James D. Doss, James Patterson; Artists: Giovanni Belli, Vitto Carpaccio, Andy Warhol; Musicians, Stevie Wonder, B.B. King
14. Please share any important websites that you are referencing for art/photo competitions and/or information. Name at least five of them. Photographer’s Forum Magazine, Shutterbug Magazine, Popular Photography, I read through these magazines and find websites and photographers with useful information.
15. What do you feel is lacking in your education to prepare you for your future? What is lacking in your portfolio? Please be specific. Video software, editing/How do you make a portfolio to fit the interview?
16. Why does someone want to hire you? What makes you unique? The ability to work in fast moving environment, administrative skills, process images and create final prints. I can work in a team environment, with or without supervision, and open to travel.
